Once plagued with legal issues and accusations of violence, Lil Durk has managed a hot streak which sees no end. The scars of violence remain embedded in his music, which has taken off despite his struggles and in spite of talent, and sheer determination.
Born Durk Derrick Banks in Illinois 1992, Lil Durk is a rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and fashion creator. He came from Chicago’s crime ridden south side and remains one of the few artists which polarized the drill scene which took the world by storm in the 2010’s. He is also the lead member and founder of the collective and record label, Only the Family (OTF.)
Lil Durk’s career took off in 2012 with the release of L’s Anthem and the French Montana-featuring remix. In 2015 he released the debut studio album Remember My Name and viral sensation My Beyonce with DeJ Loaf.
From 2016 to 2020, Durk dropped several more albums including Signed to the Streets 3, Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 and Just Cause Y’all Waited 2. The artist was also facing legal challenges which stemmed from an Atlanta shooting. Despite this, he continued his work and released another viral hit as a feature on Drake’s Laugh Now Cry Later. He continued to receive attention with Lil Baby and Polo G with 3 Headed Goat.
He released his sixth studio album The Voice in 2020, which honoured two lost OTF members who died in shootings.
