Born in Michigan in 1981, Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player. She became the second African-American woman ever to win a Grand Slam singles tournament and continued to dominate the court. In 2002 she reached her own world number one ranking for the first time.

The greatest female competitor of all time, she’s got a whopping 23 grand slams under her belt and is still going. She has earned almost $29 million in prize money and endorsements and was the only woman on Forbes’ list of the 100 highest paid athletes in 2017.

Serena has persisted in the public eye through racism, sexism and life-threatening health issues to remain at the pinnacle of the sport of tennis.
