He’s been counted as one of the pioneers of hip hop subgenre ‘trap music.’ Gucci Mane may have had his bouts with the dark side of life, but the popular artist continues to soldier on with a growing fan base and limitless musical talent.

Born Radric Delantic Davis in Alabama in1980, Gucci Mane is an American Rapper and record executive. He was introduced to hip hop aged 6, when his older half-brother Victor took him to a Run-DMC, Beastie Boys and LL Cool J concert. He then began rapping when he was 14 and started taking music seriously through the release of album La Flare on Str8 Drop Records.

Gucci knew after that, he wanted to start his own label. In 2002, he linked up with producer Zaytoven and made his own label, LaFlare Entertainment. He moved to New York next and secured a distribution deal with Tommy Boy Records.

In 2005, Gucci released his debut independent album Trap House, followed by the second album Hard to Kill in 2006. In 2007 he released his third and fourth albums Trap-A-Thon and Back to the Trap House. He continued to showcase his talent with a series of ctitically and commercially successful mixtape releases in 2009. His sixth studio album, The State vs. Radric Davis became his first gold-certified album.

After two years in prison between 2014 and 2016, Gucci released his ninth studio album, Everybody Looking which received critical praise. The album also included his first number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, with Black Beatles. which was in collaboration with Rae Sremmurd.

Gucci has now released 13 studio albums and over 71 mixtapes throughout his career. In 2007 he founded his own label 1017 records and has worked with artists such as Drake, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Selena Gomez, Mariah Carey and Marilyn Manson.

Despite growing up in the midst of crime, Gucci Mane maintains long-standing presence as a trap music innovator and is a major influence on young rappers.
