Persistence paid off for Liam Payne, who returned to X-Factor a second time before sealing his musical fate with a group of contestants who later became known the phenomenon that was One Direction. He’s still young, but this musical star has endured more than the average pop star with ambition to work harder each day to remain at the top of his game.

Liam James Payne was born in England 1993 and is an English singer and songwriter. He began singing for relatives and pub crowds at the age of six, while also pursuing a serious career in running. His focus turned directly to his music after he was turned away from a spot in his England school team aged 14. Payne joined a performing arts school and went on to study music technology in College.

His first audition for X-Factor was in 2008, and he was eliminated when judge Simon Cowell said the 14-year-old was too young to go on. The following year they raised the audition age so he had to wait until the year after in 2010 to try again, aged 16. He was successful and placed into the group One Direction along with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. The band quickly reached global success through social media, with five albums topping the charts over the next five years. In 2015, Malik left the group and the remaining members took a break, which raised opportunity for Payne to become a successful solo artist.

Payne signed a deal with Republic Records in North America, and in 2017 he released the lead single Strip That Down from his debut album LP1. The song peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and number ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in both countries. Since he left One Direction, Payne has sold over 18 million singles in two years and reached over 3.9 billion career streams.
