Legal troubles and an infamous rivalry with 50 Cent have not stopped Rick Ross from becoming a prolific artist. Despite being surrounded by cars, money and girls, he’s consistently driven to be the best he can be and has some inspirational words to encourage his fans to follow suit.
William Leonard Roberts II was born in Florida in 1976 and is an American rapper and entrepreneur. He attended college on a football scholarship and spent 18 months as a correctional officer before his pursuit in music began.
Ross released his first debut album Port of Miami in 2006 which sold 187,000 units during the first week and debuted at the top spot on the US Billboard 200. The album also received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
He released his second album Trilla in March, which also debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. It contained hit singles Speedin featuring R. Kelly, The Boss featuring T-Pain, Here I Am featuring Nelly and Avery Storm and This Is The Life featuring Trey Songz.
In 2009, Ross founded his record label Maybach Music Group and released more albums including God Forgives, I Don’t, Deeper Than Rap, Black Market, Mastermind, Hood Billionaire and Teflon Don. His tenth album Port of Miami 2 was released in 2019 and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 charts.
Reaching worldwide recognition, Ross became the first artist signed under P. Diddy’s label Ciroc Entertainment. In 2012, MTV named him the Hottest MC in The Game and the artist continues to dominate this title into the 2020’s. Taking on more than the music scene, Ross is also the owner of a number of different Wingstop restaurant locations.
